Lubricants safe for contact with oxygen

Krytox™ has been tested and approved for safe in-service use with oxygen by BOC, Air Liquide, West German Federal Institute for Materials Testing (BAM), Praxair, Air Products, NASA and General Dynamics, and other oxygen industry authorities.
CHALLENGE
Mineral oils and conventional synthetic lubricants are not compatible with oxygen. Oxygen reacts with conventional lubrication technologies, causing potential explosions, fires, lubricant deterioration, and component failures.
Oxygen accelerates the decomposition of hydrocarbon lubricants, causing stoppages and breakdowns. Oxygen reacts with conventional additives, leading to degradation, reduced lubricant life, and the need for more frequent lubrication. The use of non-compatible lubricants requires that components be installed in explosion-proof barriers.
Standard lubricants are at risk of self-ignition by compression, if in contact with oxygen the properties of conventional lubricants are often not adequate for critical systems where failure is not an option.
