High temperature lubricants

Selecting the best lubricant involves analyzing operating conditions and choosing among the many synthetic and mineral products available today. While most mineral products begin to degrade before 99°C and cease to function at temperatures just below -18°C, Krytox™ fluorinated synthetic lubricants have significantly wider operating ranges-70-316°C.

Krytox ™ lubricants are most effective at even higher temperatures, regardless of operating life. Using base oils, thickeners and additives with chemistry designed to create high and low viscosity, these products are intended for use in very high temperatures.

Available in different grades that offer anti-corrosion, extra-bonding and non-melting properties, these lubricants have applications in a variety of industries: from the chemical, textile and plastic industries to glass production, and metal extraction and processing.

Fats for high temperature: Krytox XHT

Because of its thermal stability and non-oxidizing characteristics, Krytox ™ is a high-temperature lubricant. Krytox™ XHT greases are available with useful temperature ranges up to 360° C for continuous use, with peaks at 400° C when used with an appropriate periodic relubrication plan.

The stability of Krytox lubricants

Non-flammable

Krytox ™ lubricants contain only carbon, oxygen and fluorine. Since hydrogen is not present, these products are not flammable. They will not burn or sustain combustion, even in 100% liquid or gaseous oxygen.

Chemically inert

Krytox ™ lubricants are not only resistant to oxygen, but are inert to virtually all chemicals used in industry. They are insoluble in most solvents; they are soluble exclusively in highly fluorinated fluids and in some supercritical fluids such as CO2.

Thermal and Oxidative Stability

At 355°C , the decomposition rate is about 0.03% by weight per day. At 399°C , the rate of decomposition increases to 1.3 percent by weight per day. When tested under nitrogen for six hours at 371°C , Krytox™ showed no significant change in viscosity.

The presence of air does not substantially reduce the decomposition point of Krytox ™ oils. When exposed to ‘air, gaseous decomposition products are released and the remaining liquid is less viscous; but no sludge or gummy deposits are formed that can affect the operation of your machinery.
