Technology for industrial lubricants
Fluorinated greases and oils
Fluorinated oils and greases are the best protection against deterioration of many mechanical kinematics subjected to extreme performance. They are colorless and odorless and inert with respect to many chemical agents, such as oxygen. They provide many lubricating properties because they are compatible with many materials and remain fluid even over a wide thermal operating range. In addition, fluorinated oils, with equal weight and viscosity, have lower evaporation loss than all other synthetic oils.
Fluorinated fats and oils: physical properties
- Load bearing capacity
- Protective power
- Adhesive power to areas in friction
- Sealant on seals
Furthermore, only with fluorinated oils and greases can constant hydrodynamic lubrication be ensured where operating temperatures remain below -80°C or above 220°C continuously. As a result, the lubrication film restoration time will be longer, up to 10 times better than with a mineral lubricant.
Summary properties of fluorinated fluids:
- Strong electrical resistance
- Excellent thermal resistance
- Non-reactivity with metal, plastic, elastomers and rubber
- Non-flammability
- Extraordinary resistance to radiation
- Good viscosity index
- Inert to liquid and oxygen gas
- Wide operating temperature range
- Low evaporation loss
- Resistance to the solvent action of water
- Low and high temperature anti-friction properties
- Safety for the environment
- Non-toxic
Fluorinated greases and oils: application and uses
Fluorinated greases and oils are mainly used in the automotive, military aerospace, and nuclear sectors, but especially in contexts where mechanical devices operate under critical thermal and chemical conditions (low or high operating temperatures) they can be used as:
- O-ring and valve lubricants due to non-flammability and stability in oxygen-rich environment.
- Lubricants for aircraft instrumentation for their low vapor pressure under atmospheric vacuum conditions.
- High-temperature lubricating grease due to its thermal resistance.
- Lubricants in reactive chemical environments, Due to stability to thermo-oxidation to chemical inertness and insolubility in almost all chemical compounds.
Industries in which fluorinated greases and oils can be operated:
- automotive
- food
- air force
- aerospace
- chemical processing
- electronics
- corrugated cardboard
