DOWSIL™ EA-4700 HP

DOWSIL ™ EA-4700 CV adhesive is Dow’s new silicone solution. This adhesive provides durable and fast adhesion at room temperature. Through new formulation techniques, DOWSIL™ EA-4700 eliminates the need for ovens while exhibiting a rapid cure profile with reasonable open-times.

This new solution for advanced assembly meets the increasing use of plastic substrates in automotive (but not only) as its properties allow the adhesive to bond quickly to metals and traditional plastics, including aluminum, PBT and PPS.

DOWSIL ™ EA-4700:

  • Can be exposed to heat to accelerate the development of adhesion without risk of shrinkage
  • A cost-effective assembly solution for batteries and ADAS sensor modules including, radar, Lidar and cameras
  • 600 % elongation

Dow, a global leader in silicones, today launched DOWSIL ™ EA-4700 CV Adhesive, a next-generation silicone transport solution that is capable of curing at room temperature at higher speeds while maintaining the performance advantages expected from silicone adhesives. This adhesive bonds at room temperature to traditional metals and plastics used in the assembly of electronic components. DOWSIL ™ EA-4700 CV adhesive also offers low levels of Volatile Organic Compounds for use around sensitive electronic components.

Curing at room temperature (25°C), the new DOWSIL™ EA-4700 CV adhesive achieves the bond strength of 1 Megapascal (MPa) within three hours, depending on the substrate material. By reducing or eliminating oven curing, manufacturers will reduce expenses and energy use in production. The technology used in DOWSIL ™ EA-4700 CV adhesive also allows exposure to heat to accelerate the development of adhesion without risk of shrinkage. For example, exposure to heat at 80°C, a temperature compatible with most plastic substrates, for less than 5 minutes achieves a mechanical seal of 1 MPa on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) substrate.

DOWSIL™ EA-4700 CV is a two-component adhesive that needs no primer; this adhesive cross-links quickly after mixing and provides stable adhesion and holding performance in a typical operating environment of 150° at 85% relative humidity. This advanced assembly solution also has an elongation of 600%, making it suitable even for large modules with different thermal expansion coefficients.

The development of electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles is accelerating across the industry, and engineers around the world are looking for innovative solutions to meet safety and reliability requirements and achieve more efficient throughput to produce batteries and ADAS sensor modules such as RADAR, LiDAR, and cameras, said Bruce Hilman, global Transportation segment leader at Dow Performance Silicones. DOWSIL™ EA-4700 CV adhesive provides durable adhesion and environmental sealing of substrates used in automotive electronic modules, including aluminum, PBT, and PPS. Importantly, the ability of this silicone adhesive to provide faster curing at room temperature enables higher productivity for efficient mass production with lower energy consumption.
