Our innovative solutions to meet the challenges of the hydrogen industry
From Sept. 11-13, we talked about how the decarbonization strategy aimed at reducing global pollution identifies hydrogen as a sustainable energy source because it can be produced in some cases with renewable energy and then transported, stored and used as a gas.
Italy emerges as a promising market for hydrogen development considering the availability of renewable sources and a very advanced gas transportation system.
In an advanced world aiming at low emissions and energy that is as green as possible, hydrogen is one of the most innovative and promising energy solutions.
However, this resource presents complex technical challenges, which Mascherpa, with its 120 years of experience, proposes to solve with cutting-edge, technologically advanced approaches.

The main challenges
With hydrogen emerging as one of the most promising energy solutions for the transition to a low-carbon economy, it is critical to address the challenges associated with its safe management and use.
- Safety in hydrogen storage: storage and transportation impose high standards in terms of safety; in fact, they require the use of extremely robust pressure tanks.
If these tanks are not made with appropriate materials and techniques, the risk of accidents and inefficiencies in operations is greatly increased, with negative consequences for the environment and in terms of costs. - Lubricant performance: hydrogen, being a highly reactive gas, requires the use of specific lubricants.
The use of unsuitable products can cause serious safety problems and impair equipment operation, especially in complex industrial settings such as those served by companies specializing in custom components.
The solutions brought by Mascherpa
Mascherpa to address these two problems presented at Hydrogen Expo two innovative solutions that aim to improve the critical issues and challenges regarding this increasingly impactful energy resource.
Regarding safety during storage, Mascherpa proposed Advanced Pressure Tanks built with high-quality composite materials, with the aim of ensuring greater robustness and safety during storage and transport, and to consequently avoid the risk of accidents and inefficiencies.
Regarding lubricant performance, on the other hand, Mascherpa presented a series of hydrogen-safe lubricants specially developed to operate in highly reactive environments, ensuring excellent chemical stability, high temperature resistance and complete hydrogen compatibility.
These solutions are ideal for ensuring safe and efficient operation of equipment used in complex industrial processes.
