Key points of the article

  • Permabond® 751 combines flexibility and strength, a rare feature in the world of cyanoacrylate adhesives.
  • It resists impacts, vibrations, and thermal shocks, maintaining reliable bonds even in the most demanding applications.
  • It is ideal for bonding dissimilar materials, such as metal and plastic, which are subject to different thermal expansions.
  • It passes ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity tests, making it suitable for medical device assembly.
  • It cures on numerous difficult substrates, including low-moisture surfaces or materials traditionally complex to bond.

Permabond® 751 is a new, advanced cyanoacrylate adhesive that is both flexible and developed using the latest technologies in the field of industrial adhesives.

Offering an optimal balance between flexibility and strength, Permabond® 751 is suitable for numerous adhesive applications and stands out for its biocompatibility.

Permabond® 751

The right balance between flexibility and strength

In an ideal world, many would want an adhesive that offers both extremely high flexibility and exceptional strength properties. Unfortunately, especially with a cyanoacrylate adhesive, this is not truly possible.

Improvements in strength often come at the expense of the adhesive’s flexibility, and vice versa. More flexible adhesives (thanks to their higher elongation at break) feature fewer cross-links in their structure and a lower modulus of elasticity, which allows them to flex and stretch under stress. On the other hand, these characteristics make them less capable of resisting higher shear forces.

Permabond® 751 achieves the ideal balance between flexibility and strength. With an elongation at break of 150% and a shear strength exceeding 10 N/mm² (1,500 psi) on metals, the result is a product that is both strong and equipped with the flexibility needed to withstand shocks, movement, and vibrations.

Advantages of using Permabond® 751

Adhesives that offer flexibility and elasticity present several advantages over less flexible products.

Their main property lies in offering durability, or resistance, to several important factors. Permabond® 751, for example, has excellent resistance to shocks and vibrations, which is fundamental for many applications, such as in the automotive industry.

Permabond® 751 also offers resistance to thermal shocks and thermal cycling, where a product is subjected to heating and cooling cycles. This property makes it particularly suitable for bonding dissimilar substrates, such as metals to plastics.

Since these materials have very different coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE), they expand and contract at very different rates due to heat and cold. A flexible adhesive, such as Permabond® 751, adapts much more easily to these different changes in state compared to a more rigid product, ensuring a stronger and more durable bond.

Certified biocompatibility for medical device assembly

Another advantage of Permabond® 751 is its biocompatibility. Since the cyanoacrylate adhesive passes ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity tests, it is particularly suitable for bonding medical devices.

Further reinforcing this property is the fact that the adhesive offers excellent performance on numerous plastics used in the medical field, such as polycarbonate, PVC, and ABS.

Key features of Permabond® 751

Below we summarize the main features of this flexible cyanoacrylate adhesive:

  • highly flexible with good strength;
  • bonds difficult plastics such as PP (with POP Primer) and PC;
  • one-component (requires no mixing);
  • solvent-free, reducing workplace risks;
  • does not require curing equipment (no heat or UV needed);
  • good resistance to weathering;
  • good resistance to shocks, impacts, and vibrations;
  • resistance to thermal shocks;
  • biocompatible, passes the ISO 10993-5 test (cytotoxicity);
  • suitable for dissimilar materials (handles differences in CTE).
