The new generation of Araldite® adhesives in the sign of compliance
The new generation of Araldite® adhesives stems from the need to comply with the latest changes in the European Union’s CLP Regulation, which introduced new classifications for certain epoxy substances considered CMR.
These substances, previously used as reactive diluents or secondary components, have been phased out of formulations.
The result is a range of adhesives that are not subject to CMR-labeling and without intentionally added BPA, offering an enhanced HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) profile without requiring changes to application processes.
What is CMR labeling and why is it important?
The term CMR labeling denotes the need, imposed by theClassification, Labeling and Packaging( CLP ) Regulation, to label products containing substances recognized as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction.
These classifications have a direct impact on safety management, use in manufacturing environments, and regulatory compliance.
The new generation of Araldite® adhesives completely eliminates the presence of these substances, thereby reducing exposure risks for operators and simplifying materials management on the farm.
In practice, this means greater safety in the workplace, no recertification requirements and full compliance with current and future European regulations.
What BPA free means and why it is relevant
The term BPA free indicates the absence of Bisphenol A (BPA), a substance commonly used in the production of epoxy resins and polycarbonates.
In recent years, BPA has received increasing regulatory attention because, under certain conditions, it can migrate from materials and be potentially harmful to human health and the environment.
In the new Araldite® formulations , Huntsman has eliminated the intentional use of BPA, thus ensuring adhesives that meet the latest safety and environmental care requirements of European industry.
This approach makes it possible to reduce exposure risks, simplify HSE management of products and Promote the use of adhesives even in areas with more stringent safety protocols, such as electronics, energy and transportation.
The Araldite® path of gradual transition.
Since July 2025, a phased renewal of the Araldite® range has been initiated to ensure a fair transition with no operational disruptions.
First phase
In the first phase, July 2025, the first 3 products of the new generation of adhesives were launched on the market:
- Araldite® 2014-3
- Araldite® 2020-1
- Araldite® AV 138 M-2
- Araldite® 2012-1
- Araldite® 2013-2
- Araldite® 2015-2
Previous versions will remain available until the end of 2026, giving companies time to plan for the transition.
A new generation, the same standards of reliability
The new generation of Araldite® adhesives maintains the performance standards that have made Huntsman adhesives an industry benchmark:
- Mechanical strength and adhesion comparable to previous versions,
- thermal stability up to 140 °C,
- High chemical sealing to oils, solvents and weathering,
- Thixotropic behavior for vertical or thick joint applications,
- post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) cartridges, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 36%.
An evolution that combines chemical innovation and environmental friendliness while maintaining full compatibility with existing production processes.
